Caitlin E. Perkins, "In Search of the Great Sea Serpent..." Opening 10/2/2009

Caitlin Emma Perkins
The Search for the Great Sea Serpent:
Artifacts and Ephemera from the
Elena Ernst Spine Collection

October 2 – November 28, 2009
Opening: Friday October 2nd 6-10pm

The elusive sea serpent is the focus of The Cabinet in October, featuring artifacts, monstrous oddities, and ephemera-both real and imaginary, concocted by Miss Caitlin E. Perkins.

Beginning with 19th century lore on sea serpents and adding to that her own inventions and discoveries, Perkins has created a compendium of historic and how-to knowledge on the topic, covering everything from serpent hunters' accounts to a book of recipes for cooking the monstrous flesh. She has even produced a full sea serpent hunting kit containing tools, recording logs, and sea serpent treats.

Caitlin Emma Perkins lives in Philadelphia and has a studio at Space 1026. Her work includes prints, artist books and installations and draws heavily on the visual vernacular of urban streets and historical collections.
